Classical Music Virtuoso

Hailing from Chabua, a serene town in the heart of Assam's tea country, my connection to music began almost from birth. My father, observing my unusual childhood qualities, realized my talent early on. I couldn't sleep if a song was being played—not out of disturbance, but out of deep focus. Even my mother’s lullabies ('Nisukoni geet') held me captive as I listened intently to every note. This innate ability to remember songs at a very young age convinced my father to enroll me in a local music school in Chabua, setting in motion the journey of a lifetime.

Growing up in Assam, it’s almost impossible not to be swept up by the love for music that permeates our culture. Every festival is connected to the rhythm of Bihu, and the soulful melodies of devotional songs are a constant presence. This environment intuitively shapes every child, and for me, it was a profound source of inspiration. This journey was one I shared with my brother, Kalpa, who began learning the Tabla. We started accompanying each other from a very young age, a partnership that took us to stages at school, college, and various local programs. My early musical world was a rich tapestry of Assamese legends like Jyoti Prashad Agarwala, Bishnu Rabha, Bhupen Hazarika, and Jayanta Hazarika, alongside contemporary icons like Zubeen Garg and Papon and the golden era of 80s and 90s Bollywood. Under the preliminary guidance of Kalpana Maa'am and later at Chaulkhowa Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, I began to build my foundation.

While my brother pursued science, his passion for music endures. For me, however, this passion became my chosen path. After completing my 12th standard, I took the definitive step towards a formal education by enrolling in the Luit Konwar Rudra Barua State College of Music. This decision solidified my commitment to transforming a lifelong passion into a professional career, leading me to where I am today—a dedicated performer, composer, and educator trained in classical music and also in the esteemed Banaras Gharana.
